Jones died 7/29/97. John Murray faxed the obituary from the Washington Post. The following is extracted from that obituary: John was a retired senior partner with Covington & Burling; he died of Lou Gehrig's disease; as deputy assistant attorney general he worked on both civil rights and tax issues and with AG Kennedy to secure release of prisoners in the Bay of Pigs fiasco; he was former chair of the ABA Tax Section; he was chairman of trustees at Sidwell Friends School and was active in the Friends Meeting of Washington; he tutored students in math at a DC high school; he was a master at crosswords; he flew his own plane; he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anita Bills Jones and three children, Katherine Wimmer of Pasadena, California, Phoebe Schellenberg of Bela Cynwyd, Pa. and J. Barclary Jones of DC and other family members.
The Baltimore Daily Record indicated in an article on 4/30/01 that Paula Junghans, formerly Acting AAG Tax, would be joining Piper Marbury Rudnick & Wolfe as a partner in the Washington office.
